The Green Incubator Network is here!

We’ve been developing this for a while now, but it’s finally here. The Green Incubator Network represents a partnership between Groundwork Sheffield and ourselves to connect and grow the social/ethical enterprise sector within the region.

A few months ago, it was highlighted to us by Groundwork Sheffield that there was an absence in connectivity between social enterprise and green business in Yorkshire and The Humber. While there were plenty of groups, forums, membership organisations and networking opportunities for private sector and more ostensibly for-profit enterprises, outside of LinkedIn groups there seemed to be very little in the way of networks specialising in social/ethical enterprise.

And then along came the untimely and unfortunate closure of SCEDU, which represented a major blow to the development of the social enterprise sector. SCEDU was the breeding ground for many successful social enterprises such as Patient Opinion, Opus (publishers of Now Then magazine) and Recovery Insulation.

It isn’t all doom and gloom however. Something that we’ve learned in the time working with Groundwork is that there are a lot of people with the entrepreneurial spirit who still have the concerns of the wider community, the environment or sustainability at heart. This has been the impetus, the fuel, the drive keeping us focused on the task.

The site is still in the beta phase and there will be a few changes coming over the next few months. At the moment we’re experimenting with an X-Box Live style ‘achievements’, allowing users to win points for interacting, engaging and posting.

So, we invite you to head over and take a look at, join up and begin using it. As well as a social networking platform, there’s also a marketplace directory in which you can advertise your social business to the wider enterprise. There’s also a resource section with guides and advice which we plan to expand over the coming months. What’s even better, it’s all free.

We look forward to seeing you in the network!
